Someone needs to have a talk with Visual Studio about its attitude...
I hate you Visual Studio and your cocky attitude when reporting errors. I know I forgot the stupid semi-colon, its not like I have to put one at the end of every line, sheesh.... I knew I was retarded but I didn't need my compiler to remind me.
Most Awesomest Homework Problem Ever

The object of the Kevin Bacon Game is to link a movie actor to Kevin Bacon via shared movie roles. The minimum number of links is an actor's Bacon number. For instance, Tom Hanks has a Bacon number of 1; he was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon. Sally Fields has a Bacon number of 2, because she was in Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks, who was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon. Almost all well-known actors have a Bacon number of 1 or 2. Assume that you have a comprehensive list of actors, with roles (for instance, see the Internet Movie Database files: actor.list.gz and actress.list.gz at ftp://ftw.fu-berlin.de/pub/misc/movies/database.) and do the following:
a. Explain how to find an actor's Bacon number.
b. Explain how to find the actor with the highest Bacon Number.
c. Explain how to find the minimum number of links between two arbitrary actors.
lol, wut? Where on Earth do textbook authors come up with these questions?

For I Will Live and Die, huah, A Pirate King!
So I know I haven't been posting, but I do have this little thing called school, and it makes it tough to find time to update. Anyway, something so momentous happened this weekend that I just had to share it.
In this new age of technology where everyone rents movies online, all these little po-dunk video rentals shops are going out of business. My sister and I, being the bargain hunters and movie connoisseur we are, always look for these small examples of our declining economy and pounce on them to find the best deals for cheap movies. Usually these places only have VHS for sale, but we figure that even if we can only watch the movie once or twice, buying from these businesses is way cheaper than actually going out and renting the movie.
Now this weekend the victim was Sunburst Video, it was a pretty shady place, but we trekked on over there and found they were selling VHS for $1 each! Sadly most of the movies were scary Spanish romances. But there were a few gems we managed to find. Among mine were an unopened copy of Wayne's World on VHS and A Perfect Murder. Both amazing films. But the real score came when we were wandering down one of the aisles and my sister makes a little squeal and picks up a movie and shoves it into my hands. It was The Pirates of Penzance! (in very good condition too) We were over come with joy. It was a great find. We marveled at the fact that over the two weeks that this sale had been going on no one had managed to steal this movie from us. You have to realize that this movie was one of my favorites when I was a child. We had it on laser disc and then our laser disc player broke and we couldn't find anyone who could fix it. So the poor disc has sat in our cabinet for years, never being touched. But what made the find amazing is just how rare this movie is. I've never been a snob or a collector, but this movie is near impossible to find and hasn't even been released on DVD yet. And to think I scored a copy of it for 1 measly dollar. Obviously the owners had not done their research when marking their films for sale. When my sister when to another going out of business sale she managed to find a copy of it, but had to pay $20 for a beat up old VHS copy. It truly made my weekend.
My family then proceeded to watch the film while making food for Easter. The best part was that none of us were actually watching it but we all managed to know exactly what the characters were going to say next. So we all sung along to our favorite parts.
For those of you who don't know what I am talking about: http://tinyurl.com/cxmfb9 do it now, its pure awesomeness!

A History of the Newton's Methodists
I've gotten quite a few strange looks when I respond to the question of what's my religion. I am proudly a Newton's Methodist and have come before you today to explain exactly what we stand for as well as to provide a little background to this mysterious new following.
About 3 years ago in a little town in Eastern Washington a group of high school students, being fed up with all the pointless math assignments being forced on other students, took it upon themselves to liberate all math students from the evils of Calculus and other Math courses.
Actually it was more like a bunch of students decided to take a second year of calculus because they had nothing better to do in high school and then proceeded to slack off and have the best class ever. We all had already taken Calculus AB (for those of you not in the AP know that is first year calculus) and were now taking BC, but we had the best teacher ever who tried to teach us a little bit at the beginning of the year, but eventually gave up and let us goof off. Most of my misadventures actually originated in this class.
So one day, when we weren't watching Mr. Young play Age of Empires II or buying donuts from WinCo we decided to start our own religion. I think it was inspired by Mr. Young trying to teach us something about Newton's Method and another student making a funny comment. I'm not quite sure anymore, its been so long. So we set out who had what positions in our new Theocracy. Sadly I can't remember who got what positions anymore. I swear, its like I'm getting old or something. Anyway, we then proceeded to write these new positions up on the ever cluttered white board in the back of the class.
This white board was amazing, every day some of us (namely Party Pete) would draw some random pictures on it just to confuse Mr. Young's other classes.

This is just a taste of the craziness that was Calc BC. So there you have it, a little history of the Newton's Methodists. Now, you're probably not wondering what induced this blog. Well, I'm going to tell you anyway.
I was sitting in my incredibly boring linear algebra class today and at one point in the lecture the professor turns to the class and states something along the lines of: "Now I bet this is fresh in your memory from Calc I (which I took 4 semesters ago...) But how many of you remember Newton's Method?" and then proceeded to talk about how it was a good approximation for solving nasty polynomials or something, I'm not sure, I wasn't really paying attention. But I did just have to chuckle to myself. For 1) it had been a very long time since I took Calc I and b) it reminded me of the Newton's Methodists.
Well, that turned out to be less exciting than I imagined in my head. But oh well, I hope it provides a little clarity for those of you in the dark about this new and exciting religion.
(Btw it smells like fruit loops in my room right now. My roommate claims it was the result of "lovespell" scented lotion. I don't really want to know what "lovespell" smells like, but for some reason fruit loops is the last thing I would imagine. And yet, that is what I smell...)
That is all from the pulpit.

Tired Musings...

Well, as usual not much has been happening in the exciting life of Sam. The most exciting part was the ridiculous spring storm we got last week. I don't think the weather got the memo that its MARCH. Nonetheless I woke up Thursday to look out the window and just see white. It then proceeded to snow off and on all day going from huge flakes that coated everything in a wonderful white powder to wet almost rain to thunder and lightening hail storms. It was crazy. Luckily I was given a ride to campus that morning. While I love the snow, I was done with it. It hadn't snowed in months and all of a sudden it dropped about 6 inches in a day. The lamest part (yes I did just say lamest) was that the next day it was ridiculously sunny and warm, melting most of the snow. THEN, just when I thought I was in the clear it snows again on Saturday leaving even more snow and ice. Then on Sunday, surprise surprise, its sunny and warm again with blue skies and not a cloud in sight. It proceeded to be nice (albeit cold) until Monday when it dropped another 6 inches that morning. I didn't class until noon so I was lucky enough to avoid the blizzard. This is because right at noon, after I got up in my warmest winter clothes, the sun came out and and clouds disappeared... Seriously, the weather here is so bipolar. The roommate and I decided that this is all the work of the eye trying to keep people from being able to drive home for spring break. Sadly it missed by a week so I think we are all good. (For those of you not in the know, we have a conspiracy that the Brian Hall clock tower is actually the eye of Sauron. If you've ever seen it at night when it glows a vibrant red, you will know, also Eastern Washington is like a nasty hell that is only comparable to Mordor.)
The rest of the week it was miserably cold and sunny. Almost as if the weather were mocking us. "Hey its nice and sunny, you don't have to wear 2 pairs of pants" *goes outside* "Damn you weather, its like 5 degrees outside!" On Wednesday when I walked to work at 8 in the morning my muffin actually got a layer of frost on it...
There has also been another incredibly amazing sign put up in my hall this week. I swear I must meet the person responsible for these...

Hm, other than that, I'm just trying to get through exams and projects before I am off to see Wicked in Portland on Sunday. And then will be bored for the rest of spring break. Oh, I did find a hilarious picture online that I know the movie review guy from the MiX would appreciate (for I know his hate of Nicolas Cage) You can see it here . Well, now that that was incredible disappointing I am off to sleep. I probably shouldn't post this seeing as I am half asleep right now and rather unispired... Oh well.

Frustrations and other Musings...
Ok, so this might go over some of your heads, but I find it absolutely mind boggling! So I have never really had the best of luck with wireless connections on my laptop, and I never could managed to connect to Netgear routers. But recently its gotten to the point where I cant even connect to the WSU wireless. Every time I try and connect it doesn't accept my password or school ID. And now it has progressed to where it crashes every time I try and connect. So I thought it might have just been my user, since I have the inept ability to mess things up. So I set up a new user on my computer and low and behold it connects just fine. So then I switched back to my main user and it stayed connected. Its kinda cheating but hey it works for me. Maybe you can explain to me why network manager crashes when I connect using my main account but when I connect with my second user and switch back its fine...
As for the problems with network manager, I blame the boy entirely. He has had the worst luck on his Sabayon computer with network manager and I think its beginning to rub off on my Ubuntu baby :(
Other than that not much else has been going on in P-town. It snowed a while back which is crazy, its been sunny and somewhat warm for the last month and all of a sudden overnight it snowed a couple inches. Then as soon as it came, it was gone, and back to being sunny. The other day we got a bunch of rain which was very exciting ( as some of you don't know, I love the rain, nothing better than a rainy morning ). Well it was the weekend and no one was in town, I was all by myself in the suite so I went on an adventure to the little market and bought some yummies to consume later in the lonely evening. And on my way back I took some pictures on my new phone because 1) I was excited it was raining and b) my phone doesn't take that bad of pictures and lastly, I have figured out a way to get them off my phone without emailing every one to myself. So here it is in all its glory, my attempt at a picture blog:
I have a lovely pair of white keds ( only one of which is actually mine ) and I decided they would look nice with the outfit I was wearing that day. Well I promptly forgot that rain and white shoes do not mix. Now I have a lovely pair of mud-stained off-white keds.

While I was walking down the hill back to the dorm I noticed something rather random. There were piles of Splenda packets scattered on the sidewalk. They looked as if they had been strewn there in haste by someone trying to get them somewhere in a hurry. I like to think that there was a great AA meeting going on in the dorm full of diabetics who needed their sugar rush, but they were out of sugar substitute packets for their coffee. So they sent one lone errand boy out into the rain to fetch their blessed sugar substitutes before the members went crazy from their lack of caffeine. Because no one can drink coffee just by itself, even coffee with Splenda is better than black coffee. But as the errand boy was returning from the market, he was suddenly attacked by a giant garbage eating squirrel. The mutant squirrel, fond of bothering poor students near the back entrance, stood between the boy and his goal of completing the errand, being recognized as completing such an important task and subsequently saving the school from the wrath of the groggy AA members. So, in an act of courage the boy lept past the beast, dropping a few of the precious packets ( a small sacrifice ) on the rain soaked side walk and ran as fast as his little boy legs could carry him to the door. When the boy returned with the packets he was proclaimed a hero and never was sent on another errand again. ( Or thats how I imagine it happened ).

After I returned the the dorm I went down to work and, as always, there was no one there. ( Maybe the other victims of the mutant squirrel weren't as fortunate )

So then I attempted to connect my poor laptop to the wireless, and only after making a new user, was I able to connect. But I just want you to know that my laptop is impossible! See, my laptop was recognizing a 66% signal strength from my wireless connection. Now I want you to look at the computer in that picture, see above the monitor that little grey rectangle. That's the wireless access point. Why on earth do I get 66% connection when I'm 4 feet from the access point?! Its mind boggling!

Then after my shift was over I trudged back up the stairs only to come across this little reminder of how much I love living in the nerdy, honors hall. I've commented before on the comments on the hall signs, I guess I just have to keep them coming....
Once I was back in my humble abode I took a moment to sit down and bask in the glory of our 6' tall poster of Despereaux. None of us have ever seen the film, but when the theater gives away free giant posters, you take one. The real trick it getting it to stay up there.
Well thats all I can think of for interesting pictures I've taken. Someday I may take some more and share them with you, but this is enough for now ( this blog has officially reached the length: tl;dr ) I hope you all enjoyed some of the anecdotes I added as captions for the photos, I tried to go back to some of my roots and write blogs like in the good old days of Myspace ( did I do goods? )
That is all from the pulpit,
see you all next time freinds!

The wonders of open source software
So I was dinking around in the terminal today (yea, that's not a good way to start a sentence) and I came across these nifty little easter eggs, I don't know if you will enjoy them as much as I do XD

If you can't tell, I wanted to know more about the apt-get command, so I typed "apt-get --help" and I guess the "APT has Super Cow Powers", random. But now I was curious, so I googled this anomaly and discovered that if you typed "apt-get moo" you got a nifty picture of a cow asking "....Have you mooed today?..." Who knows, but apparently they had a little too much fun writing this.

Pardon my Lateness...
Well, not much excitement has been going on down in P-town. Its midterms time and everyone has been studying like no tomorrow. Its been crazy. This whole semester has been crazy. Not my best. I actually failed a physics exam. Now I hate to say but I am usually that girl who says "Oh, I did terrible" and then gets a B+. But this time when I say I did terrible, I really mean I did terrible. I have never actually failed an exam before. This was a new experience. I still haven't decided if I like it yet, but I always have my withdraws if things continue in this manner. Oh and I felt kinda silly this weekend. I wanted to hang out with the boy on Friday after all my terrible exams and projects (I also wanted to get his advise on some homework) but when I got on facebook I saw his status was "In Pasco for the weekend" I was just like "thanks for telling me" I had no idea he was leaving. I was a bit annoyed at first. But then I remembered a few weeks ago when I took a spontaneous road trip to southern Idaho and failed to mention this to him. I'm still not sure if he didn't tell me on purpose as payback or not... heh.
Other than that, weather has been weird, its been awfully warm with random days in which it will be about 20F and frosty and then go back to 45F the next day. Oh I got a new cell phone a few weeks back. I have had the same silver razr for about 5 years now and I thought it was time to upgrade. Sadly Verizon doesn't have very many exciting phones. I was going to go for a generic phone, but I got suckered into getting the LG Dare, and I actually kinda like it. It is a bit silly being a touch screen and all, but I like it. Its no iPhone, but as a phone it works pretty well. It also has an awesome camera, so bam 2 for 1, now I dont need to get a digital camera.
Today I watched the Oscars, that was a little disappointing as always. I have a hard time with the oscars, becuase one I love them, but I am always disappointed. A lot of the time the people I think should win don't. I feel that most of the time the awards are always political. I hate when films win for reasons other than the ones they won for. Ok, let me explain. Milk won the oscar for best original screenplay somehow. I don't think it really deserved this award. I mean I'm sure it was a good film and had an interesting message and all, but I definitely don't think it deserved the best screenplay of the year. The other nominees definitely had better writting, I think Milk only won becuase it was controversial, and people wanted to make a statement (also, the acceptance speech was a bit uncalled for) but oh well, thats my 2 cents and they dont really matter. But I was excited that Kate Blanchett won, I love her and am happy to see she finally got and oscar, now I really want to see Revolutionary Road! But I do have to say this year was a bit of a let down, not very many good movies came (or at least ones that I wanted to see) I am very excited for next year though, there are a bunch of films I cant wait to see!
In other movie news, I watched Memento for the first time this weekend, and I have to say I really liked it. Its definitely worth seeing. I can't believe I went this long in my life without seeing it. Oh well. I also watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail with the subtitles for "those who don't like the film" for the first time (you know, the ones randomly taken from henry VI) and I will say it made the movie all the more enjoyable. I've owned this movie for years and have never actually watched it with the subtitles. I am very glad now that my roommate recommended it. However, I was also disappointed this weekend, we wanted to see Coraline but it wasnt showing in P-town, we would have to go to Spokane, and thats a bit too far of a drive. Maybe the roomie and I will check it out next weekend, after we sign a lease for an apartment that is...
Speaking of apartments, the boy's apartment complex made Digg, that was pretty exciting. And its true, some of the wifi names in that place are pertty interesting... Maybe I will take a screenshot next time I'm there and show you.
There sadly hasnt been much else to talk about, I did have some things I wanted to share, but sadly I forgot all of them. :\ Oh well, here is a little something from a blog I wrote about a week ago that I never posted >_<:
Oh I also went on a late night adventure to Safeway with the roomie the other night and got some wonderful little plants to replace the ones she killed last semester. The purple one is exciting because it looks exactly like one that our friend from Florida left us last year (which sadly died).
And today I heard from a friend that Kanye West was wearing a letterman's jacket from my high school and I was in disbelief, but this blog says otherwise. Its mind boggling how such a famous person like that would get a letterman's jacket from somewhere as random as kamiakin. Too much fun!
Well those are all the thoughts I have running through my head right now so I am off to bed! Night!

Just dinking around on facebook this morning and I have to say I don't think their ad software works very well. I am in the Washington State University network and I keep getting ads for the Gonzaga basketball online store... Seriously facebook?
Also, It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight Risin' up to the challenge of our rival!!
My roommate was watching some movie the other day and I have seriously had that song stuck in my head non stop for the last three days. Its midly annoying and mildy amusing at the same time.

Well those are all the thoughts I have running through my head right now so I am off to bed! Night!

That Was a Joke, HAHA, Fat Chance
So I was dinking around on my computer today and I came across this picture that I took a couple weeks ago and remembered that I wanted to blog about it, but I never got around to it.

Anyway, the story behind the picture goes a little like dees:
So there had been this sign up in the stairway of my dorm for the longest time advertising for a hall meeting to select the government. Anyway, the only way the hall can manage to get residents to attend is by providing free food. So for this meeting they were going to have ice cream cake (as you can see). But one day I was walking home from class and something caught my eye. There had been an addition to the sign. In small print below the cake sign someone had scribbled in "The cake is a lie!" Now I would like to say I burst into laughter at this point, but I am not that outspoken so I chuckled to myself quietly and took a picture right away. Only in the Honors dorm would such a comment be made. I then proceeded to run upstairs and tell my roommates about my discovery. For some reason they were not as excited as I was about it. I don't think any of them understood, which was a real shame. Thus I figured I should share this story on the internet, since it might get better reception there. I only failed at the sharing part. I tend to do that a lot.
So there you have it, the story of exactly how nerdy my dorm is. And I just need to make a note here: HUGE SUCCESS!

Random Misadventures of an Eventful Wednesday
Wow two posts in a single week, it must be a record! Actually today was full of some exciting events I just felt compelled to tell the internet about them.
Well today actually started out pretty lame. I had to go in to work at 8 am this morning. Now most people would say 8 isn't that early, but for a college student who doesn't have class until noon, this was ridiculously early. Anyway, I stumbled out of bed early this morning and wandered over to the building I was working in and on the way I ran into a guy who was totally the evil twin of none other than my dear friend Party Pete. He looked exactly the same down to the khakis and black pea coat. The only way I knew it wasn't actually him was the cigarette he had in is his hand. Thus the only rational conclusion would be that I found his evil twin. After that I sat around the helpdesk for a couple hours listening to the techs banter on about the funniest things. From one's hatred about stats to another's complains of a hang over, the conversations were quite entertaining.
Next was my first computer science class of the day which went by rather slowly and wasn't too exciting. That was followed by my other comp sci class which was mildly interesting. The best part was before the class started. You know how people tend to sit in the same seats every day in classes, well I always sit two seats from the wall in my cs class and there are always these two guys that come in right before class starts and sit in the two chairs next to me. Now this week a third guy decided to come and sit in the seat next to me, disrupting the seating bliss we had. So then I got put in the awkward position of splitting up these three friends. With only two seats and three friends, one had to sit on the other side of me. I don't know if its just me, but I love watching people be awkward. Part of me wants to sit one seat over on Friday so that all three of them can sit together, but the other part of me wants to witness the awkwardness, mwahahaa.
Ahem, after that I trekked over to the physics building for none other than my physics class. Which is always entertaining since I sit with Party Pete and Cassette Disc. Today we had a quiz with these stupid clickers that act like remotes that you input your answers on. Anyway, they look stupid and in fact are rather pointless (its just because the professor is too lazy to grade quizzes, or rather pass them off to the TA to grade). But they are a new fangled technology, so I guess they have to learn that its stupid somehow. Well Party Pete decided to trace his "cleeeker" (as the professor says) and turned it into a fun little guy with a sophisticated curly mustache, a comb-over, a tux shirt and a cape. He then proceeded to write out the rest of his notes with his left hand (he's right handed) it was more entertaining watching him than keeping track of how many times the professor drops his microphone.
On my way back home from class I got the prime opportunity to be a creepy stalker, it was too much fun. See when I walk home I take several short cuts through buildings. And today there was this poor guy who happened to be taking the same short cuts I was. Now it started when I walked through the Conner museum which is a really random building and really people only enter it to pass through it. So I followed him into that building and he didn't think twice when he held the door open after him. But then I continued to follow him out of the same exit and across a courtyard into another building. This time he gave me an awkward look while holding the door open behind him. As we were walking down the hall he continually looked behind himself to see if I was following him (I assumed) the best part was when he turned a corner and took a quick look behind and started walking faster when he saw I turned at the same corner! So then I followed him out of the building and he hurried off in the opposite direction I was headed. I never realized how much fun it is stalking people (even if its unintentional)!
So that's been about the extent of my day. Oh I have recently found my new favorite band (well maybe not my absolute favorite, but they are high up there). Anyway, its White Rabbits, they have a really fun, unique sound and don't sound like every other alternative/indie/punk band out there right now.
And with that I will leave you to go to homework or get ready to watch Lost! And I wish you a Happy Hump Day!
